What Is Sensor Lighting?

Sensor lighting is activated automatically by movement or changes in the surrounding environment – typically using an infrared (IR) or passive infrared (PIR) sensor. This technology allows lights to be switched on and off without physical contact, increasing everyday convenience and contributing to a more energy-efficient home.

Sensor lighting is ideal for areas where you only need light for short periods or often have your hands full – such as wardrobes, drawers, utility rooms, entrances, or bathrooms. It ensures that light is available exactly when needed – and automatically switches off when the area is no longer in use.

Integrated Sensors in Luminaires

At Loevschall, we offer a selection of LED lights with integrated sensor functionality. These solutions are designed for elegant and discreet integration, with the technology hidden inside the fixture itself. This means you get fully functional and aesthetically pleasing lighting without needing to install separate sensors.

Integrated sensors are particularly popular under kitchen cabinets, where the light is activated by a simple wave of the hand. This provides both a sleek appearance and convenient usability.

Separate Sensors

For those seeking more freedom in choosing light sources and placement, we also offer separate sensors that can be easily connected to your existing lighting. These sensors can be used in a wide range of rooms and furniture and can be combined with our full selection of LED lighting to create a complete and customized solution. This allows you to set up sensor-controlled lighting without complex electrical installations, and the system can be adjusted or expanded at any time.

Find the Right Sensor

At Loevschall, we offer two types of sensors, both of which can be elegantly integrated into furniture and cabinets – depending on how and where the light should be activated:

  • IR sensor: Activates the light when something comes close – such as opening a cabinet door or moving your hand past. Ideal for cabinets, drawers, and under kitchen cabinets where you want the light to turn on upon opening or precise movement.

  • PIR sensor: Detects movement in the room and activates the light when someone enters the sensor’s field of view. Perfect for open areas like walk-in closets, hallways, and entryways where you want touch-free automatic lighting.

Both sensor types are compatible with all Loevschall 12V LED lighting.

Energy Savings and Durability

One of the biggest benefits of sensor lighting is the automatic switch-off function, which ensures that lights are only on when needed. This significantly reduces energy consumption – especially in areas where lights are often left on unintentionally. Combined with our LED technology, which is already energy-efficient and long-lasting, you get a solution that is both cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Applications – From Cabinets to Rooms

Sensor lighting makes a noticeable difference in everyday life, especially when discreetly integrated into furniture such as cabinets, drawers, and shelves. It activates exactly where and when you need it – without getting in the way or requiring manual operation. Here are some of the most common areas where sensor lights really shine:

Wardrobes and drawers: In wardrobes, it's convenient to have the light turn on automatically when you open a door or drawer. It provides a clear overview and makes it easy to find clothes and accessories – even in spaces without natural light. Our Angled LED profile combined with a sensor is especially well-suited for wardrobes, as the angled light provides efficient, targeted illumination – without glare. You can also explore our range of drawer lights [here].

Kitchen and utility rooms: In areas like kitchens and utility rooms, where your hands are often full – whether cooking, washing dishes, or doing laundry – touch-free lighting is a practical and hygienic solution. Polaris is an excellent choice here, with a built-in IR sensor that allows you to turn the light on and off with a simple wave. Ideal for mounting under wall cabinets, close to your workspace.

Entryways and hallways: When entering the home with bags, coats, or children in tow, it's helpful when the light turns on automatically. Here, sensor lighting offers a simple way to increase both comfort and safety. Glow is a flexible, rechargeable solution that activates by motion – and can be set to only turn on in low-light conditions. It's easy to move around and also works well in smaller spaces like utility rooms, closets – or even in the bike shed.

Quality You Can Rely On
